Tips to ensure your bra fits properly when trying on a
bra |
-
When
you are trying a bra on, it’s best to start off by fastening
it on its loosest hook. This way you’ll be able to tighten
the bra up if it starts to give in the back a bit when you
have worn it a few times with washing and wear.
-
The
back of the band should also sit parallel with the front,
and not ride up – if it does, it’s too loose. The band should
be just tight enough so that it doesn’t move around on your
body.
-
A
good fitting bra’s main support comes from the back band,
NOT the shoulder straps (which is why a well fitting strapless
bra still keeps you up!)
-
A
loose band will therefore not only reduce the bra’s supportiveness,
but also mean that more of the weight has to be taken by
the shoulder straps, causing them to dig in. A loose band
may also cause skin chaffing as it constantly rubs against
delicate skin. A condition worsened in warmer climates
-
For
underwired bras, the centre section in between the cups
should be FLAT AGAINST your chest and not standing away
from the body. Make sure the wires don’t dig in, rub or
poke out at the front or at the sides.
The area under the wires must be hard bone and not delicate
breast tissue.
-
The
breasts should be enclosed in the cup and should not spill
out or bulge from any part of the cup, including under the
arm. This applies to a soft cup bra, a balconette style
or any other lower cut shape.
-
It’s
a good idea to try on a snug top over the bra to check for
any tell-tale bumps or bulges.
